Reciprocating Compressor Crosshead

Cross head parts are mainly composed of cross head body, cross head pin and cross head lock nut. The material of the cross head body is ductile iron and forged steel. The main material of the slide surface cast babbitt alloy cross head pin is 3Cr13, No. 45 steel, 38MOAIA, 41CrMOAIA.

The crosshead and crosshead guide are made of cast iron featured by good abrasion resistance and long service life. Upper and lower guides are used for mud pump, so that the concentricity can be adjusted by adding shims beneath the lower guide. The connection between the crosshead and the extension rod is made by using bolted flange. The rigid connection ensures the concentricity of the crosshead and the extension rod. The coupling is used for connecting the extension rod to the piston rod. The light-weight coupling enables the extension rod and the piston rod to connect to each other easily and reliably.

Crosshead pin is made from 45# steel. It is the component between connecting rod and crosshead.

The crosshead is the part that connected the piston rod and connecting rod and it has guiding role. In the compressor, closed crossheads are mainly used and opened crossheads are used in some compressor. The connection type can be divided into thread connection, connector connection, flange connection.

Dongyi uses one piece crossheads with full top and bottom lubrication. Crossheads are ductile iron with babbitted sliding surfaces. Heavier crossheads, used to balance larger opposing weights, can be provided in bronze.

Crossheads are made from Nodular Iron, Steel or Aluminum. Crosshead shoes are manufactured from Aluminum, Cast Iron, Babbitt coated Iron, bronze or Babbitt coated Steel.

Inadequate rod load reversal can result in lack of lubrication to the crosshead pin and consequent failure.

Crossheads and crosshead nuts of varying weight are available to facilitate proper frame balance. Balance crossheads are available to balance opposite blank throws.
