Reciprocating Compressor Piston Rings
Sealing the Combustion Chamber:
Piston rings create a seal between the piston and the cylinder wall. This seal prevents the compressed gas from leaking out of the combustion chamber, ensuring efficient compression and maintaining the pressure needed for the compressor’s operation.
Controlling Oil Consumption:
The rings help control the amount of oil that is allowed to pass between the piston and the cylinder. This is important because while a thin layer of oil is necessary to lubricate the moving parts, excessive oil can lead to contamination of the compressed gas and increased oil consumption.
Heat Transfer:
Piston rings assist in transferring heat from the piston to the cylinder wall, where it can be dissipated. This helps in maintaining the temperature of the piston within safe operating limits and prevents overheating, which could damage the piston and the cylinder.
Compression Rings:
These are located in the top grooves of the piston. Their main function is to seal the combustion chamber and prevent the compressed gas from leaking out. They withstand high pressures and temperatures and are usually made from durable materials like cast iron or steel.
Oil Control Rings:
These rings are located below the compression rings. Their primary function is to regulate the amount of lubricating oil on the cylinder walls. They scrape excess oil off the cylinder walls and return it to the crankcase, ensuring a proper lubrication without allowing too much oil to enter the combustion chamber.
Proven Performance
DONGYI is a leader in the design and production of precision-made piston ring seals and rider rings. We earned this reputation by working closely with compressor operators and OEMs, responding to their evolving needs with innovative products and materials.
Designed for Durability
Rider rings prevent the piston from contacting the cylinder wall, while piston rings reduce gas flow between the piston and cylinder.
DONGYI optimizes rider ring geometry, features, dimensions and materials to reduce loads and provide maximum service life, even in the most demanding applications.
DONGYI piston rings are engineered to limit leakage with lasting reliability.
All piston ring and rider materials are tested and validated through engineering analyses and DONGYI’s in-house materials laboratory and test compressors. Materials include cast iron, bronze, specially engineered alloys and high-performance thermoplastics.
Manufacturing Value
DONGYI manufacturing techniques and state-of-the-art equipment allow consistent machining to precise tolerances. Carefully controlled manufacturing ensures that each ring maintains uniform contact with the cylinder for dependable sealing.
Stringent quality assurance gives you the confidence that Cook rings will perform reliably time after time.
